The Madison Early Childhood Learning Center (MECLC) is an ODE licensed preschool and childcare center that provides care for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. MECLC has infant, toddler, preschool, latchkey, and school age summer programs. Our center uses the Creative Curriculum assessment for all program areas, and the ASQ-3 screening to assist with the progress, monitoring, and growth of our children. The Creative Curriculum follows Erik Erickson’s stages of socio-emotional development and Jean Piaget’s theories of how children think and learn. Creative Curriculum also considers the child’s learning environment in the fostering of independence and growth.
Preschool students are assessed using the Creative Curriculum and the Early Learning Assessment (ELA). The ELA is conducted two times a year in the fall and spring. All students learn in a center-based classroom environment that is created around weekly lesson plans and themes. The teachers develop lesson plans based on the interest of the student and using the Creative Curriculum for all program areas including the ELA for Preschool students. Students learn through exploration and play while interacting in both small and large group activities throughout the day.
MECLC is a 5-Star awarded Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) rated center. SUTQ is a 5-tiered rating system that was established by the state of Ohio that rates the quality of care children receive in a program based on specific state guidelines. All of our programs; infant, toddler, preschool, and school age are 5-Star rated. The staff at MECLC attends a variety of Step Up to Quality professional development trainings annually so that they are using the most recent strategies and methods in the classroom to provide the best quality care in early childhood education. The strong history of parent involvement and community support has helped cultivate the Madison Early Childhood Learning Center into a high-quality program.
