Construction Technology 1 (available to students in grades 9 and 10)
Construction
Technology is designed to prepare students with the proper knowledge of
construction job site and workshop safety. Correct use of hand tools, power tools, and basic wood shop machines
will be taught. The main focus will be
on carpentry and some basic electrical skills. The tools and machines will be used to give students a hands-on
experience while working on various projects. A core body of knowledge from The National Center for Construction
Education and Research curriculum will be followed.
Construction Technology 2 (available to students in grade 10)
This course takes an in-depth look at
the field of construction using scaled projects and real-life situations that
may occur on a job site. Fundamental
knowledge and basic skills in carpentry and electrical trades will be
stressed. Other building trades such as
minor masonry, plumbing, and interior and exterior finishes will be
addressed. Quality of workmanship and
work ethic will be weighted heavily in this class. Students will also learn the stages of
planning projects from drawings, material uses, estimating, constructing, and
billing.
