First year Health Science Technology students will participate in a 75-hour State of Ohio approved Training and Competency Evaluation Program for Nursing Aide (STNA). Topics during the first year are Nurse Assisting, Dental Assisting, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Veterinary Assisting, Medical Assisting, American Heart BLS/First Aid/CPR, Skills USA Professional Development Program, Medical Terminology, Nutrition, Legal/Ethical Issues in Healthcare. Level 1 Health Science Technology students will have an opportunity to job shadow a professional in their chosen health career.
Second year Health Science Technology students are
in school the first 9 weeks for the entire day. During this time the students work on Pass Assured Pharmacy Tech
Program. After the first 9 weeks
students with a C or better in all classes are permitted to leave after 4th
period. The students are required to
work or volunteer in the health field 15 hours per week until the end of the
school year. Wage and hour sheets are
turned in weekly and the students earn a grade while working in their field.
The Pharmacy Tech Certification exam may be taken after graduation and once the
student is 18 years of age.
