Madison Adult Career Center offers a variety of short-term courses. Gain quick training in technical skills or take that course to learn something fun just for you!
 
Career Enhancement Courses offer quick skill introduction in areas often valued by employers like Basic Welding, Microsoft Word/Excel, Adobe Photoshop, English as a second language and child care certification, just to name a few. 
 
Personal Enrichment Courses, on topics like Essential Oils, Decluttering and how to fix your mower, are provided based on our community's interests. They can be fun and even give you some stress relief!

Cake Decorating Level I 
2/24/2020 - 3/30/2020 (6:00 - 8:30pm, Mon) - 15 hours - $90.00
Students will learn the basics of baking a cake; icing; smoothing; making buttercream icing; filling cakes/ cupcakes; transferring patterns; piping flowers, borders, star fill, basket-weave and use these skills to create various designs. This course will get you started in the fun and exciting art of cake decorating for personal or professional use. The first night’s orientation will assist students with expectations, required items and additional cost (cake decorating kit is $35, payable to instructor).

Using chart of accounts, create a company, security, working with lists for customers & vendors, banking, basic reports, invoicing, process payments, banking, create 1099’s. Course cost includes textbook. Prerequisites: familiarity with computers and windows.
 
Matter of Balance

This free course sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging is aimed at people over 60 or anyone who would like to learn exercises to improve their balance and prevent falls.
 
Basic Blueprint Reading
3/3/2020 - 3/17/2020 (6:00 - 8:00pm, Tues, Thurs) - 10 hours - $105.00
A beginning course on the basics of manufacturing prints. The student will gain an understanding and interpretation of the different types of lines, views, dimensioning, tolerances and surface texture notations that are used on manufacturing prints. Course includes cost of textbook.
 
Decluttering KonMari Method & Swedish Death Cleaning
3/3/2020 (6:00 - 7:30pm, Tues) - 1.5 hours - $15.00 
Get rid of your anxieties. The main focus of this is finding a way to “free yourself”, as well as making your home more relaxing and enjoyable. Both are extreme forms of decluttering and both require a lifestyle change. KonMari Method is about keeping only what sparks joy. Swedish Death Cleaning is about getting rid of things other people won’t want when you are gone and while they are grieving. The class will touch on reasons for decluttering, methods, and how to rid anxieties while doing it, and about “freeing oneself” from “stuff” and materialism.
 
Intro to Digital Photography

Learn the basics of digital photography including camera operation, composition, use of camera modes and more. Discover how to get the most out of your digital camera. *Bring to class: Digital or film SLR camera. Textbook: “Beginners Photography Guide”, 1st Edition Published by Chris Gatcum through DK.
 
Jewelry Class (Beginning)
3/5/2020 - 4/2/2020 (6:00 - 8:00pm, Thurs) - 10 hours - $60.00
Learn to make jewelry! Choose between gold, silver, copper or brass. Create one or two items to take home and impress your family and friends. *An approximate $25 fee will be paid to the instructor depending on materials used.
 
Landscape Design/Care
3/5/2020 - 4/2/2020 (6:30 - 9:00pm, Thurs) - 12.5 hours - $75.00 
Learn the basic principles of landscape design. Included will be guidelines on location, appropriate plant choices (including suggestions for plants for decorative ponds), techniques for planting and maintenance including fertilizing, weed control and pruning. Techniques for planting spring bulbs will be covered in the fall session. Ask “The Plant Lady” your landscaping and plant questions.
 
Advanced Small Engine Repair
3/12/2020 - 4/2/2020 (6:00 - 9:00pm, Thurs) - 12 hours - $84.00
This advanced course covers more complicated issues with two- and four-stroke theory and allows students to repair and maintain their own small engines. Students can bring their own small engines to class (lawnmowers, weed trimmers, chainsaw, log splitter, etc.) *Bring to class a basic tool set – screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers and hammers.
 
Healthcare Provider
3/18/2020 (5:30 - 9:30, Weds) - 4 hours - $71.00
Adult, child and infant CPR, plus choking and two-person CPR. 
 
Healthcare Provider - Renewal
3/24/2020 (5:30 - 8:30, Tues) - 3 hours - $47.00
This is for those with recently expired or current certification. Course includes a general review for CPR recertification. For healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR both in and out of hospital settings.
 
Basic Office Support Services (B.O.S.S.)
3/24/2020 - 6/17/2020 (4:30 - 8:30pm T,W,TH)
Prepare for entry-level employment in retail or service industries.  Introduces computer hardware/software; effective communication and customer service; financial transactions; basic business math; office equipment and safety. Prepares students for OPAC certification in Basic Word, Alpha Filing, Data Entry, Keyboarding, Petty Cash, Windows and CPR/First Aid.  

This program is approved for WIOA Funding and the Ohio Adult Diploma program. (See program info./enrollment form to the right)
