Madison Local Schools' Community,

Please be aware that as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Ohio and across the nation have dropped dramatically, the Ohio Department of Health updated its guidelines last week, and in accordance with the update, Madison Local Schools will no longer:
  • maintain a COVID-19 reporting system,
  • have a designated COVID-19 coordinator in the district,
  • notify parents of positive COVID-19 cases among staff, students, or coaches,
  • nor will we report positive cases of COVID-19 to Richland Public Health.

Please be reminded that students or staff who test positive for COVID-19 must stay home for a minimum of five (5) days, and may return to school on day six (6) as long as:
  • they are fever-free
  • their symptoms have improved,
  • and they wear a mask for five (5) days.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Respectfully,

Rob Peterson
Superintendent

Madison Community,

Please be aware that masks will no longer be required on school buses/transportation, effective immediately. This change follows yesterday's removal of the CDC's school transportation masking requirement

** Updated February 8, 2022

Madison Local Schools Community,

In addition to yesterday's notice (see paragraph below), please be advised that we have received additional guidance from Richland Public Health today regarding individuals who have been identified as direct contacts outside of the school setting.

Effective immediately, a direct contact may remain in the classroom/school setting if the individual does not have symptoms and wears a mask and monitors for symptoms for 10 days after the last date of exposure.  The direct contact may continue to participate in extracurricular activities if the individual does not have symptoms, wears a mask when able for 10 days after the last date of exposure, and tests on day 3 after the last date of exposure.  All direct contacts will now be handled similarly whether the exposure took place within or outside of the school setting.

Please be advised that, effective immediately, the district is discontinuing universal contact tracing (identifying close contacts in the school setting) based on recent guidance from the Ohio Department of Health.  However, if an outbreak occurs within the district, we will assist Richland Public Health with contact tracing.  Please continue to follow the current protocol for those individuals who have tested positive for COVID, and those who have been identified as close contacts outside of the school setting, and please continue to keep sick children at home.  Also, please be reminded that remote learning will take place on all calamity days for the rest of the school year.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in these matters.

--Rob Peterson, Superintendent
